RESOLUTION
Calling
to Support the re-confirmation of Stephen Glassman as Chairman
of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission
Whereas,
Stephen Glassman has worked diligently and consistently
to fulfill the duties of commissioners through policy making,
legislative oversight, adjudication, and as a public liaison;
and
Whereas, his record of working to
ensure the equal treatment and civil rights of all Pennsylvanians
has been exemplary; and
Whereas, Mr. Glassman has taken a
stand against uninformed factions who seek ways and means
to justify discrimination against individuals because of
their sexual orientation; and
Whereas, a campaign initiated by certain
organizations across the Commonwealth are attempting to
suggest that Mr. Glassman is advocating “special rights”
for gay and lesbian Pennsylvanians; and
Whereas, these factions draft and
use propaganda to justify and legitimize discrimination
against gay and lesbian citizens in civil matters; and
Whereas, because of this advocacy
of prejudice is precisely the reason Mr. Glassman is needed
as chairman of Pennsylvania’s Human Relations Commission;
and
Whereas, under his leadership every
citizen will be treated equally, allowing for all to enjoy
“life, liberty, and justice for all; now, therefore,
be it
Resolved by the City of Council of
Philadelphia, that we hereby support the re-confirmation
of Stephen Glassman as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Human
Relations Commission
Further Resolved, That a copy of this
resolution be presented to the Philadelphia delegation of
Pennsylvania House and to the desk of Governor Edward G.
Rendell in the evidence of the sincere sentiments of this
legislative body.
